The popular Braddock Park Farmer’s Market is returning this weekend and will run every Sunday till Sept. 29, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year it’s being joined by a “Friends and Family Farmers Market” sponsored by the North Bergen Health Department, taking place on the last Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Recreation Center.
The Friends and Family Farmers Market is made possible by a $20,000 grant by the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network (NJHCN) community grants program. It will launch on Saturday, June 29 at the Rec Center, 6300 Meadowview Ave., and will provide the community with fresh produce, health education, wellness promotion, and Zumba lessons.
The goal is to foster healthy eating and implement healthy recipes that will be beneficial to all local residents.
The North Bergen Health Department is devoted to providing a range of services that target disease prevention, health promotion, and community interaction. Healthy eating and exercising have many beneficial components. Vegetables and fruits are rich in nutrients and can help reduce diseases such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. Regular exercise makes the heart stronger while also improving circulation, lower blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
This year the Braddock Park Farmer’s Market enters its fourth season, located near the north entrance to the park at the Veteran’s Memorial. The heart of the market is a fresh produce stand loaded with healthy, local-sourced fruits and vegetables. Cooked food is also available, including corn, burgers, hot dogs, and shish-kebabs. In addition, a rotating selection of vendors will bring different wares each week to the market.
Opening day for the Braddock Park Farmer’s Market is Sunday, June 30, 2019. Look for a special edition on July 7, 2019 with live entertainment.
