Among the many other activities the cadets will be participating in this week are visits to the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny, NJ, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Manhattan, and even the National Law Enforcement Museum and FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. The six-day academy also includes overviews of fingerprinting, polygraphs, crime scene processing, defensive tactics, and much more.

North Bergen’s 2019 Junior Police Academy kicked off with a busy first day on Monday, July 22, 2019 as a group of 31 local students began their crash course in law enforcement. After roll call and physical training at 8:30 a.m., they visited North Bergen Police Headquarters, where they were treated to a fascinating history of law enforcement, along with information on the NBPD and the process of becoming a police officer.
After lunch the cadets toured the building, visiting the jail cells, evidence room, detective bureau, and more. Then it was over the municipal court, where they spent some time learning about the court system from a judge.
The Junior Police Academy is an intensive one-week course designed to operate like an actual police academy. The goal is to educate select North Bergen students in various police procedures and give them a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to succeed in the profession of law enforcement.
