Wonder Girls Program Expands to Jersey City, Empowering Local Youth

Published

on

Founded in 2020, the Wonder Girls after-school program is making strides in over 20 schools across New York and New Jersey. Designed for girls from middle school to college, the program offers a supportive space to address emotional, physical, and mental challenges—free from judgment and isolation.

Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City is the latest institution to adopt the Wonder Girls program. With support from Goya Foods, this initiative aims to equip 6th–8th grade girls with skills to build confidence, foster leadership, and promote community engagement.

The program includes developmental workshops and community service days in collaboration with local organizations. “We believe in empowering young girls to become leaders in their communities and beyond,” said Martha Aguilar, a Wonder Girls advocate. “Our mission is to inspire social responsibility and a commitment to giving back.”

Wonder Girls has gained national recognition, including awards from Homeland Security and an invitation to the United Nations, underscoring its impact. Schools interested in collaborating are encouraged to reach out through the Wonder Girls website.
