North Bergen School Aide Sues District, Claims She Was Fired for Reporting Harassment

A former teacher’s aide at Lincoln Elementary School in North Bergen has filed a lawsuit against the North Bergen Board of Education, alleging she was terminated in retaliation for complaining about sexual harassment directed at her sixth-grade daughter by a fellow student.

Asiria Robles filed the complaint May 20 in Hudson County Superior Court under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

According to the complaint, Robles began working as a teacher’s aide for the district in September 2022. In April 2025, a student made a sexually explicit comment to her daughter, who was also a sixth grader at the school. Robles says she was not informed of the incident for several days, and when she raised concerns with Principal Nicholas Sacco, she received no specific explanation for the delay.

Approximately one month later, the same student allegedly threatened to touch her daughter in her private areas. Robles made a second complaint to Sacco and Vice Principal Shibli. She says she was told no report had been filed after the first incident because the student had only “asked a question.”

A third incident occurred in June 2025, when the same student allegedly approached her daughter’s lunch table and pounded his fists on it in an intimidating manner. Robles made another complaint to school officials and later learned the teacher monitoring lunch that day had not been informed of any instructions to keep the students separated.

In early September 2025, the district sent Robles an email stating her services were no longer needed. The complaint alleges that Superintendent Dr. George Solter Jr. told Robles directly that her termination was connected to her complaints about the harassment of her daughter.

Robles is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, reinstatement, and back pay.
