Detectives from the West New York Police Department Anti-Crime Unit arrested a West New York man on multiple narcotics and weapons charges following the execution of a search warrant on the 6400 block of Bergenline Avenue on March 26, 2026.

Heriberto Rivera, 44, of West New York, was taken into custody during the operation, which was conducted with assistance from the Patrol Division and Specialized Response Unit. Detectives recovered suspected cocaine, heroin, psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana, as well as an illegal firearm.

Rivera was charged with two first-degree counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin, two second-degree counts of possession with intent to distribute psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon while committing a controlled dangerous substance offense. He was remanded to the Hudson County Jail following processing.

West New York Police Captain Ed Rivera addressed the arrest in a statement.

“This arrest reflects our continued commitment to keeping dangerous narcotics and illegal weapons out of our community,” Capt. Rivera said. “The presence of large quantities of narcotics and an illegal firearm poses a serious threat to the residents of West New York. Let this serve as a clear message that this type of activity will not be tolerated in our town.”

The department also thanked the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team and the Hudson County Sheriff’s K9 Unit for their assistance during the operation.

These charges are accusations. Rivera is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
