Jersey City, NJ – Veronica Akaezuwa, a community activist and policy advocate, announced her candidacy for Jersey City Council’s Ward D district, running on James Solomon’s slate. Akaezuwa serves as the Director of Policy and Advocacy for New Jersey Appleseed.

Akaezuwa outlined her campaign goals, focusing on affordable housing, better public education, and improved city services. “Together, we can build a Jersey City where growth and affordability are a reality, not a dream,” Akaezuwa said. “We need development that prioritizes long-term housing affordability, better education for our children, and reliable public services in the Heights. My campaign is focused on creating a community that thrives on equity, affordability, and quality public resources.”

James Solomon, Ward E councilman and leader of the slate, expressed strong support for Akaezuwa. “I am proud to support Veronica Akaezuwa for Jersey City Council. Her dedication to affordable living, better schools, and accessible city services aligns with our vision for a stronger Ward D. Her leadership will bring real change to the Heights,” Solomon said.

Veronica Akaezuwa is a resident of Jersey City Heights and currently serves as the Director of Policy and Advocacy at New Jersey Appleseed, where she leads efforts to reform New Jersey’s voting system. She previously worked as Director at the NJ State Office of Innovation, where she enhanced public access to government data and developed community engagement tools. In Jersey City, she led a grassroots campaign for ranked-choice voting and worked on revitalizing a schoolyard. She holds degrees from Rutgers University and Columbia University.
