A two-alarm fire early Monday morning at a three-story apartment building in West New York sent one person to the hospital in critical condition, according to sources familiar with the response.

The fire was reported at 2:30 a.m. on April 8 at 120 66th Street. Emergency crews responded to the three-unit building and remained on scene until around 5 a.m.

Sources say the fire was contained to the kitchen of a second-floor apartment, where it is believed to have started. One occupant was found near the kitchen and removed from the unit by emergency crews.

Firefighters and police officers performed CPR before the resident was transported by West New York EMS to Palisades Medical Center. Sources say the individual may be on life support, though no official update has been released.

Some firefighters sustained minor injuries, but no major injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation and has been referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
