Man Arrested in Secaucus Linked to Armed Home Invasion

A 22-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested early Monday morning in Secaucus after attempting to enter an apartment building and fleeing in a stolen golf cart, police said. The suspect, identified as Alaji Ahmad-Alwan, was later connected to an armed home invasion reported hours earlier in Robbinsville.
According to the Secaucus Police Department, officers responded to a call just before 1 a.m. on April 7 from a concierge at the Xchange complex on Riverside Station Boulevard. The concierge reported a man trying to force entry into the 4000 building. After being denied access, the suspect fled the area and allegedly stole a golf cart valued at $13,000, which was later found abandoned near another building in the complex.
Police located Ahmad-Alwan nearby and took him into custody. During a search, officers found property that belonged to a Robbinsville resident. Secaucus Police contacted Robbinsville authorities, who confirmed the items were connected to a home invasion that had occurred earlier that day. Ahmad-Alwan matched the description of the suspect in that incident.
Robbinsville Police issued an arrest warrant after receiving confirmation of Ahmad-Alwan’s identity.
Authorities also discovered that Ahmad-Alwan had an active warrant from Point Pleasant issued on March 28 in connection with a motor vehicle theft case.
“This incident is a clear example that criminals operate with no jurisdictional boundaries, therefore the only way to hold these criminals accountable is to share intelligence with one another,” Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said in a statement. “I commend the investigative follow-up work of my Patrol Division, which directly associated this career criminal to additional crimes.”
