Congressman Menendez Joins Student-Led Walkout

U.S. Representative Rob Menendez Jr. joined students this week during a walkout protesting ongoing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Hudson County and across the country. The demonstration, organized by students from North Bergen High School, Memorial High School in West New York, and Cliffside Park High School, concluded with a march to Braddock Park.

The protest was entirely student-led. Participants carried signs and chanted in unison, voicing concern over the impact of federal immigration enforcement on their communities.

Addressing the crowd, Menendez stated: “Thank you all for being out here today. Whose country is this? Country. Are you our future? Have your families made this country? Are we going to fight for it? Are we going to stand up for it? We will not let them destroy what you have created. We will not let them take your future. This is our fight. This is our county. This is our state. This is our motherf*cking country. Thank you for lifting your voices. Never back down.”

In a statement following the protest, Menendez added, “Today, I stood with students who have experienced the trauma that has been caused by the Trump Administration. I listened to their stories. I shared their pain. And I let them know that they are not in this fight alone. We will never relent in the fight for our communities and for the soul of our nation.”
