Missing Jersey City Mother Found Dead Near Bayonne
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Norelis Mendoza, a 32-year-old mother from Jersey City, has been missing since May 13, 2023. However, a tragic turn in the case has emerged following the discovery of a body near Bayonne, New Jersey.
Mendoza was last seen around 10:00 p.m. at her mother’s apartment located at 361 Montgomery in Jersey City. Now, according Instagram user @formula_g , there are fears that Mendoza’s body may have been found.
“I just want to give you guys clarity on the situation. I don’t want you guys hearing it from different sources,” says @formula_g. “A body has been found…let’s be here for each other in this moment. Let’s be there for the family.”
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office announced this morning via a tweet that they have initiated an investigation following the discovery of a dead body in the vicinity of Route 440, on the border of Jersey City and Bayonne. The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are currently investigating the case.
As of now, the authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body or released any further details about the case. The area where the body was discovered is currently cordoned off as investigators work on the scene.
Mendoza’s disappearance has been a source of deep concern for her family and the Jersey City community at large. The news of the discovered body has added a somber tone to the ongoing search efforts.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the death of a Lindenwold woman who was found deceased in Bayonne.
On Sunday, May 14, 2023, the Jersey City Police Department received a missing person report for a 32-year-old Lindenwold woman who was last seen in Jersey City on Saturday, May 13, 2023. During the course of the investigation, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit – with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department, Bayonne Police Department, and New Jersey State Police – located the lifeless body of a female off of Route 440 near the Jersey City border on Thursday, May 17, 2023. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been tentatively identified as Norelis Mendoza, 32, of Lindenwold. The death is considered suspicious at this time and the Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
