Pulaski Skyway to Close in Both Directions This Weekend

The Pulaski Skyway will be closed and detoured in both directions this weekend, from 11 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, until 11 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The closure is needed to restripe the roadway and remove a construction barrier so crews can reopen the Broadway ramp connecting the Skyway and Route 1&9 Truck. That ramp had been closed since November 2021 to allow major steel, bearing, and pier repairs on several Skyway spans, which were also sandblasted and repainted. The ramp itself was then rebuilt with new steel and a concrete deck.

The Broadway ramp is expected to reopen in both directions by 11 p.m. Saturday, or earlier if work finishes ahead of schedule. It provides an exit from the northbound Skyway to Route 1&9 Truck and an on-ramp from Route 1&9 Truck to the southbound Skyway.

For northbound drivers, the closure begins past Newark Liberty International Airport, where Route 1&9 Express Lanes traffic will be directed onto the Local Lanes and continue on Route 1&9 Truck northbound toward the Route 7, Route 139, and Route 1&9 intersection in Jersey City. Drivers heading to Hoboken, Jersey City, or New York City may also use the New Jersey Turnpike-Hudson County Extension.

For southbound drivers, the closure begins on the Route 139 Lower Roadway over the Tonnelle Circle, with traffic directed to the off-ramp for I-280, Route 7, and Route 1&9 Truck southbound. Drivers leaving the Holland Tunnel can use the New Jersey Turnpike-Hudson County Extension for destinations west and south, or follow Route 139 westbound to Route 1&9 Truck southbound toward Newark.

Drivers looking to reach local Jersey City destinations are advised to use the Route 139 Upper Roadway and follow signs to Kennedy Boulevard.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time throughout the weekend.
