RWJBarnabas Health Names New CEO for Jersey City Medical Center

RWJBarnabas Health has named Jonathan P. Kyriacou as the next president and chief executive officer of Jersey City Medical Center, effective January 26, 2026. Kyriacou will be responsible for the hospital’s strategic direction, operational leadership, and financial performance.
Previously, Kyriacou served as chief operating officer at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where he managed a $4 billion operating budget and led a workforce of more than 15,000 employees. His tenure included oversight of a $750 million capital plan, the expansion of clinical services, and improvements in performance metrics.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kyriacou directed efforts to expand bed capacity, established testing and vaccination sites, and supported the creation of the Institute for Critical Care Medicine across the Mount Sinai Health System.
“Jonathan’s track record in operational excellence, strategic planning, and high-quality patient care aligns perfectly with the mission, vision, values, and goals of RWJBarnabas Health and Jersey City Medical Center,” said Thomas A. Biga, executive vice president and president of the Northwest Region at RWJBarnabas Health.
Kyriacou holds a graduate degree in health policy and management from New York Medical College and an undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University. He also earned certificates from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Michigan. He has served as a faculty member at the City University of New York and published work on financial incentive models and health care reform.
His recognitions include being named a “Healthcare Leader Under 40” by Becker’s Hospital Review and a “40 Under 40” leader by Crain’s New York Business.
