North Bergen Issues Daily Fines Over Westview Towers Heating Outage

The Township of North Bergen has begun issuing daily penalties to the landlord of Westview Towers in response to a prolonged loss of heat and hot water at the residential complex. Mayor Nick Sacco and the Board of Commissioners announced that the building owner could face fines of up to $2,000 per day until full service is restored.

“Keeping our residents provided with safe and warm living conditions is non-negotiable, and the conditions at Westview Towers are unacceptable,” said Mayor Sacco. “The Township will use every tool available to hold the landlord accountable, and in the interim our Building and Health Department staff are on-site and working tirelessly until this issue is resolved and every tenant has the services they deserve.”

Township officials reported that the building’s heating equipment must be entirely replaced. According to the contractor, work is underway, with heat expected to resume Tuesday night and full hot water service by Wednesday.

While repairs continue, warming centers remain open for tenants at the Terrace Building at 6800 Columbia Avenue and Lawler Towers at 6121 Grand Avenue. The North Bergen Building Department and Health Department are actively monitoring the repair process to ensure compliance and timely resolution.
