Mayor Solomon Appoints Jersey City Fire Department Deputy Chief Loren M. Hart As Acting Deputy Public Safety Director

Mayor James Solomon has appointed Jersey City Fire Department Deputy Chief Loren M. Hart as acting deputy public safety director, the city announced March 6. Hart will serve under Acting Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

Hart, a lifelong Jersey City resident, brings more than two decades of experience with the Jersey City Fire Department. Over a 23-year career, he has risen through the ranks from firefighter to captain, battalion chief and deputy fire chief, a position he has held since 2022.

“Loren Hart is Jersey City, born and raised,” Solomon said in a statement. “He has spent 23 years protecting his neighbors, his community and his city as a member of the Jersey City Fire Department.”

Solomon said Hart’s experience, integrity, and dedication make him well suited to help lead the city’s public safety operations alongside Ambrose.

Hart said he is honored to take on the new role.

“I love Jersey City. This is my home — it’s where I grew up, where I was raised and where I’ve chosen to spend my career,” Hart said. “For 23 years, I have had the honor of serving alongside the bravest men and women in the Jersey City Fire Department, and every single day, my mission has been the same: to protect the people of this city.”

As deputy fire chief, Hart oversees daily department operations, personnel and emergency readiness across multiple battalions. During his career he has led multi-alarm incident responses, helped develop department policies and worked on initiatives focused on firefighter training, technology and health and safety programs.

Ambrose welcomed Hart’s appointment and said he looks forward to working together to strengthen the city’s public safety efforts.

“Deputy Chief Hart is exactly the kind of leader this department and this city need,” Ambrose said. “He brings more than two decades of hands-on experience in fire operations and emergency management, and he carries the respect of the men and women who serve alongside him.”

The appointment comes as the Solomon administration continues several public safety initiatives announced earlier this year, including the hiring of 30 new police officers, the reestablishment of the Traffic Enforcement Division and a renewed commitment to the city’s Vision Zero program.

Hart assumed the role effective immediately.
