Jersey City’s Mercy House Leads the Way in Easter Cheer

The Mercy House of Jersey City, in partnership with its locations in Newark and Elizabeth, orchestrated an Easter initiative, distributing about 1,000 gift bags filled with candies, crayons, and other treats to families in need.

This effort marks the Archdiocese of Newark’s largest-ever Easter Giveaway, with Jersey City’s Mercy House contributing significantly by handing out approximately 250 bags.

The giveaway took place across all three of The Mercy House locations. Cheryl A. Riley, the director of The Mercy House, emphasized the importance of giving back, especially to children from families who might not be able to afford gifts during the Easter season. Riley stated, “Jesus called us to help those in need, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at The Mercy House,” highlighting the organization’s commitment to ensuring every child can enjoy the holiday festivities.

The initiative not only reached families visiting the Mercy House locations but also extended to the community through additional donations. Around 200 gift bags were sent to Emmanuel Church of Christ’s preschool and St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral in Newark, further broadening the impact of this charitable effort.
