Saint Peter’s vs. Mount St. Mary’s Selected as MAAC ESPNU Wildcard Game

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced that the men’s basketball game between Saint Peter’s University and Mount St. Mary’s University on Friday, January 30, has been selected for national broadcast on ESPNU. The matchup will tip off at 8 p.m. at Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, New Jersey.
As part of the MAAC Wildcard Game package, ESPN has the flexibility to choose high-interest matchups throughout the season. The game features the conference’s two most recent champions, with Mount St. Mary’s winning in 2025 and Saint Peter’s claiming titles in 2022 and 2024. This marks Saint Peter’s fourth ESPNU appearance since 2021–22 and Mount St. Mary’s first since joining the MAAC in 2022–23.
The January 30 contest follows the teams’ previous meeting on January 9 in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where Mount St. Mary’s earned a 70–65 victory.
Saint Peter’s (11–6, 8–1 MAAC) enters the game tied for first place in the conference. The Peacocks are on a four-game winning streak and boast their best conference start since the 1994–95 season. The team leads the MAAC in steals per game (9.9), turnover margin (+3.3), and turnovers forced per game (14.71), while also ranking third in scoring defense (67.5 points allowed per game).
Mount St. Mary’s (8–12, 4–5 MAAC) sits in a tie for sixth place and recently swept a road trip to Western New York, defeating Canisius and Niagara. The Mountaineers are among the MAAC’s top rebounding teams, averaging 25.9 defensive rebounds and 36.25 total rebounds per game.
Before the nationally televised game, Saint Peter’s will face Merrimack College, while Mount St. Mary’s will host Quinnipiac and Rider.
The 2026 MAAC Basketball Championships will be held March 5–10 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
