Infamous Lawyer and Firefighter John J. Collins Elected JCFD Union Prez

John “Jack” Collins, a Jersey City firefighter and attorney with a history of legal disciplinary actions, has been elected president of the Jersey City Firefighters Union (IAFF Local 1066).

Collins secured the top spot in the election, unseating long-time incumbent Joseph Kranjik.

Known for his dual careers, Collins has faced scrutiny in his legal practice, including a six-month suspension in 2024 for commingling client funds and practicing law while under suspension.

Collins is engaged to Councilwoman Amy DeGise, formerly seen as a rising star in Hudson County politics and daughter of former Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. Once considered a potential Jersey City mayoral candidate for 2025, Amy DeGise’s political trajectory shifted following a widely publicized hit-and-run incident in 2022.

A political source says the power couple of Collins & DeGise are strong supporters of Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, a 2025 mayoral candidate. The couple’s connection brings a new power dimension to the Jersey City Fire Department, intertwining local politics and union affairs.
