Jersey City, NJ – Gary Greenberg, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County, has died at 70. Greenberg dedicated more than 45 years to the organization, helping to expand its programs and services for at-risk youth in Jersey City and Hoboken.

Greenberg began his career with the Boys & Girls Clubs in 1975 as a part-time youth supervisor and van driver.

Susan Haspel, State Director of Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey, said, “Gary was more than the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County. He was a guiding light, a source of inspiration, and a true pillar of his community.”

James Solomon, Jersey City Councilman, reflected on Greenberg’s dedication to local youth. “He devoted his life to creating a safe and nurturing environment for countless children in our community,” Solomon said.

Greenberg also faced challenges such as the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, which severely damaged the Club’s Hoboken location. He worked with staff and community members to restore operations swiftly, ensuring that services continued without prolonged disruption.

Former Governor Jim McGreevey praised Greenberg’s compassion and commitment. “Gary was a loving, caring leader who consistently put the interest of children first,” McGreevey said.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 9th, at 12:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Sanctuary in Paramus, New Jersey. The family has requested donations to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County Foundation in lieu of flowers.
