Letter: 250 Years of America

Two hundred and fifty years ago, New Jersey earned its title as the Crossroads of the Revolution. This wasn’t just because of our geography, but because of the grit, defiance, and visionary spirit of our people. Today, that same revolutionary spark lives on through our diverse local business leaders. Every risk you take, every job you create, and every innovation you pioneer are testaments to this same spirit.
Our continued success as a country, state and county is dependent on astrong and diverse economy that works for everyone. It is built daily through the through the resilience of local commerce.
It is not lost on me that taxation was one of the drivers of that first revolution. High taxes reduce consumer purchasing power, increase rents and housing costs, discourage labor and investment, and hamper entrepreneurship. They distort economic choices instead of economic efficiency.
This reduction in after-tax rewards for working, saving and investinghas resulted in the outflow of businesses and residents to other towns and states where they can flourish. We must find a way to restore the balance with effective and efficient governance to reduce the stress on our residents and employers who struggle to survive.
We aren’t just inheritors of a great legacy; we are the architects of the next 250 years. Let’s use this historic milestone to dream bigger, collaborate deeper, and build a more prosperous Hudson County.
Thank you for your passion, your grit, and your relentless pursuit of progress.
Happy Fourth of July!
