West New York Middle School Teacher Arrested on Charges Involving Juvenile

A teacher at West New York Middle School was arrested Tuesday, June 10, following an investigation into sexual conduct involving a 17-year-old, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Juan Sanchez Moya, 26, of Union City, was taken into custody at his home by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. He was charged with multiple offenses related to child endangerment and the distribution of explicit material to a minor. He was brought to the Hudson County Correctional Facility and is expected to appear in court.
Authorities said the victim met Moya through an online gaming platform. Investigators determined that Moya exchanged sexually explicit content with the teenager. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the victim is not a student in the West New York school district, and none of the incidents took place at the school.
“The crimes did not occur at the West New York Middle School and the victim is not a student in the district,” said Suarez.
The arrest was carried out with support from the Union City Police Department and the Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. team.
