Two Dead in Overnight Fire at North Bergen Senior Housing Complex

Two people were killed in an overnight fire at the Cullum Towers senior housing complex in North Bergen, according to authorities.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the fatalities Wednesday morning, stating that the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, along with North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and the North Bergen Police Department, is investigating the cause of the blaze. The fire occurred at the residential building located on Grand Avenue.

In a statement posted to social media, North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco said that the North Bergen Housing Authority is coordinating with local and regional agencies to support affected residents. This includes the North Bergen Police Department, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, the Red Cross, NB C.A.R.E.S., and other public service groups.

Displaced residents from the building have been temporarily relocated to a nearby hotel while officials determine when it will be safe for them to return. No additional details about the victims have been released at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
