Secaucus Police Dispel Rumors of Active Shooter at Walmart

SECAUCUS, NJ – The Secaucus Police Department (SPD) has confirmed that rumors of an active shooter at the Walmart in Secaucus on Tuesday were entirely false. Authorities clarified that the incident was instead a response to a bomb threat received while officers were making an unrelated shoplifting arrest at the store.
According to a statement from SPD, officers were already present at the Walmart on Park Plaza Drive addressing a shoplifting incident when the bomb threat was reported. As a precaution, the store was evacuated, and a thorough search was conducted by SPD officers in coordination with a Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer and a K-9 unit. No credible threat was found, and the store was later deemed safe.
“We have become aware of rumors regarding an alleged active shooter situation at our Walmart today. These rumors are entirely false,” the department stated.
Local authorities urge residents to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that may cause unnecessary panic. The investigation into the bomb threat remains ongoing.
