Saint Peter’s University Lays Off 17 Employees

Saint Peter’s University has laid off 17 staff and administrative employees and reduced seven others to part-time, according to a report by The Saint Peter’s Tribune. The report states cuts affected multiple departments, including the School of Nursing, CEEL, IT Services, O’Toole Library, and Military & Veteran Services.
In a statement to the college paper, University President Hubert Benitez stated the layoffs were intended to support the university’s long-term financial stability. The reductions follow earlier cost-cutting measures introduced last spring to address a projected operating deficit.
Faculty showed signs of protest at the university’s convocation on August 26, with some wearing armbands in solidarity with those laid off, according to The Tribune.
