An investigation is underway following a police-involved shooting that occurred Friday afternoon on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue in Jersey City, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials stated that at approximately 1:20 p.m., Jersey City Police officers driving marked vehicles southbound on Kennedy Boulevard came under fire from an armed male suspect. Authorities said the gunman fired multiple rounds, striking both police vehicles.

The gunman appeared to have been struck by return fire and was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition remains unknown.

HudPost obtained footage from the aftermath, showing a person on the ground surrounded by blood. A witness at the scene said, “Heard only two gun shots and went out to look to this about an hour ago. He did not look coherent when the ambulance came for him.”

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
