Open Letter: Hudson County Chamber CEO Urges Business Community to Vote

An Open Letter on Upcoming Elections:

Upcoming elections are critical for our business community, and the results will have a profound impact on our local and state economies. Decisions made in the Governor’s office, Legislature and at City Hall directly influence everything from our tax burdens and regulatory climate to the quality of our workforce and our infrastructure. These offices hold the power to either accelerate economic growth or create unnecessary roadblocks.

Why These Elections Matter to Your Bottom Line:

  1. Fiscal Responsibility and Affordability: Is government working for you? High taxes and regulatory fees can force businesses and residents to leave, taking jobs and economic opportunities with them.
  2. Transportation and Infrastructure: From state highways to local roads to broadband, zoning and public safety, elected officials oversee the essential infrastructure that keeps commerce flowing and makes our region an attractive place to live and work. A safe, livable community with modern infrastructure is the foundation of a strong business environment.
  3. Workforce and Education: A thriving economy requires a skilled talent pipeline. Investments in education, vocational training, and workforce development directly affect your ability to hire and retain qualified employees.
  4. Regulatory Climate: We need advocates who will streamline bureaucratic processes, fix permitting and licensing systems, and avoid burdensome regulations that disproportionately harm small businesses.

It is up to you to get informed and vote.

  1. Research their stances on economic development, taxation, workforce training, and infrastructure.
  2. Identify candidates who show up to listen to the concerns of the business community. Watch videos of our mayoral forums for Hoboken and Jersey City at hudsonchamber.org.

The most powerful action you can take is to vote. A strong business community is the engine of a society that works for everyone. Together, we can elect leaders who will partner with the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce to build a more dynamic and prosperous future.

Sincerely yours,

Emory Edwards
President and CEO
