North Bergen Announces Summer Junior Police Academy for Middle School Students

North Bergen students entering seventh or eighth grade in September are eligible to participate in the Junior Police Academy this summer, a five-day program designed to introduce youth to law enforcement practices and leadership development.

The academy will run from Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, and will be limited to 32 cadets. Enrollment will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis, and participation is restricted to North Bergen residents.

The program aims to educate cadets on police procedures and the history of the North Bergen Police Department, while also offering tours and field trips. Organizers stated the academy is intended to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the skills and responsibilities required for a career in law enforcement.

To apply, students must download and print the application form, complete it accurately, and submit it along with a brief essay addressing why they want to participate and what they hope to gain from the experience. Applicants must also include a recommendation letter from a teacher, principal, or vice principal.

All application materials, including the essay and recommendation letter, must be submitted by May 15.
