Lockdown at Hoboken High School

Hoboken High School remains on lockdown as police investigate a potential threat reported to the school’s main office. The Hoboken Police Department has closed streets and urged the public to avoid the area.
In an email to families sent at approximately 3:15 p.m., Principal Robin Piccapietra said the lockdown was initiated “in an abundance of caution” following a call to the principal’s office that “may or may not be deemed a threat.” The call came in at approximately 2:45 p.m., shortly after dismissal.
“We ask that you avoid the area outside Hoboken High School and avoid any onsite pick up of your child or children at this time,” Piccapietra wrote. “We will dismiss as soon as the police conclude their investigation and deem that the situation is all clear.”
Police have closed streets from 7th Street to 10th Street and from Willow Avenue to Adams Street. Photos and video shared with HudPost show officers in tactical gear outside the school and students sheltering inside classrooms.
One student messaged HudPost saying, “We’ve been on lockdown even though school ended 12 minutes ago.” Some students speculated about the cause, but no official information about the nature of the threat has been released.
As of publication, police remain on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
