Localized Boil Water Advisory in Effect in Western Hoboken

A localized Boil Water Advisory remains in place for Veolia water customers in the area spanning from Adams Street to Hoboken’s western boundary between Sixth and Tenth Streets, following a contractor-damaged water main near Seventh and Madison Streets.
According to Veolia, water main repairs have been completed and affected roads have reopened. However, as a precautionary measure, residents and businesses in the impacted area must continue to boil tap water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or other forms of consumption.
The advisory was issued after the water main break caused a significant drop in water pressure, which could allow for the presence of harmful microbes. Water does not need to be boiled for showering or laundry.
Veolia has begun collecting water samples for testing. These tests require a minimum of 24 hours to complete. Results will be reviewed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to determine whether water quality standards have been met. Customers will be notified once the advisory is lifted.
Drinking water is available for affected residents at the plaza outside 770 Jackson Street until 10 p.m., or while supplies last. Residents are asked to take only what they need due to limited availability.
Veolia has advised against using home filtration systems in place of boiling water and recommends discarding any food, beverages, or ice prepared during the advisory period using unboiled tap water. Additional precautions include using boiled water to rinse hand-washed dishes, treat minor injuries, and hydrate pets.
