Dennis Febo, a Hudson County resident and founder of Guazabara Insights LLC, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Nuyorican Poets Café. Febo joins the board of the historic New York City venue known for supporting spoken word, cultural expression, and community engagement.

Febo described the appointment as “a return” and “a reclamation,” emphasizing the Café’s significance. “The Nuyorican is sacred ground — where language, resistance, rhythm, and identity have always collided to birth culture and awaken truth,” he said.

Febo has led numerous community-based initiatives in Hudson County through Guazabara Insights, including programs in correctional education, youth development, and public health. He is also the National Lead Organizer for the Abolish Slavery National Network and teaches in the Health Sciences Department at New Jersey City University.

Founded in 1973 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the Nuyorican Poets Café has long served as a platform for underrepresented voices.

“Legacy. Liberation. Language. Pa’lante Siempre,” Febo said in closing.
