Hoboken PATH Station to Close in January for Critical Upgrades

Published

on

The Hoboken PATH station will undergo a full closure from January 30, 2025, to February 25, 2025, as part of the Port Authority’s $430 million PATH Forward program. The program is aimed at modernizing infrastructure across Hudson County’s essential transit services. This closure allows critical upgrades to proceed on an expedited timeline, sparing commuters months of rolling closures and delays.

During the closure, extensive track replacements and station renovations will take place. Crews will replace station tracks and the switching network outside the station, repair 4,500 feet of track leading to Hoboken, and refurbish public areas and stairways within the station.

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole acknowledged the temporary inconvenience: “This closure will undoubtedly pose challenges for Hoboken riders, and we recognize the impact it will have on their daily routines. The PATH system is a vital connection in our region, and this work is crucial to ensuring it remains safe, reliable, and efficient for the thousands who depend on it every day.”

To minimize disruptions, the Port Authority has coordinated with transit partners to provide alternate travel options. Expanded ferry service, frequent PATH shuttle buses, and supplemental NJ TRANSIT bus and light rail services will support commuters. Additionally, PATH will increase train frequency at Newport and Exchange Place stations to handle the expected higher ridership.

PATH General Manager Clarelle DeGraffe also commented on the importance of the work, noting, “We recognize the inconvenience our customers will experience during this period of essential infrastructure and station rehabilitation, and we appreciate their patience and understanding as we work to make this 116-year-old rail network more reliable.”

The PATH Forward program, now entering its next phase, aims to enhance the overall passenger experience and system reliability, benefiting Hudson County residents and PATH commuters. The Port Authority is also hosting information sessions on November 12 and 13 and a virtual session on December 10 to keep residents informed.
