Hoboken Native Named Education Director at Mile Square Theatre

Hoboken’s Mile Square Theatre has announced the appointment of Gabriel Diego Hernández as their new Education Director. Gabriel, who hails from Hoboken, brings a rich background in education and the arts, promising to bring new energy and innovation to the theatre’s educational programs.

Gabriel’s academic credentials include a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s in Latin American Studies from Yale University. His career in education began in the New Haven public school system, where he developed his teaching skills. He later worked with organizations such as Prep for Prep and the Possibility Project, further honing his mentorship abilities. Additionally, Gabriel coordinated the scholarship program at Private Prep and spent over a decade as the musical director at the summer stock theater camp Extravaganza!.

As an arts educator, Gabriel’s experience is extensive and varied. He has served as a live piano accompanist for children’s choirs, directed school plays, and worked as a performer. He is a member of Pregones Theater in the Bronx and has notable acting credits in productions like El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom at Two River Theater, CasablancaBox at HERE Arts Center, 72 Miles to Go… at The Alley Theatre, and La Canción at Repertorio Español. His own hip hop musical, Quarter Rican, which explores themes of identity and parenting, premiered at Mile Square Theatre and has earned significant acclaim and awards, including a Talía Award nomination and the HOLA Award for Outstanding Performance in Musical Theater.
