Hoboken City Council Approves North End Redevelopment Agreements

The Hoboken City Council approved four redevelopment agreements with Park Willow LLC, authorizing a mixed-use redevelopment project in the city’s North End.

The agreements cover approximately two and a half blocks near 15th Street, Willow Avenue, and Park Avenue. The area includes vacant lots and underused industrial land. The approvals allow for residential development, public open space, and transportation-related improvements. “This is legacy project for me and for our community,” said Hoboken Mayor Bhalla, “I am especially proud that these projects will deliver new affordable housing, expand public open space, and create safer, more sustainable ways for people to move through out city.”

Under the plan, the redevelopment would include several hundred residential units, including units designated as affordable housing. The project also provides for new public plazas, parks, and pedestrian connections linking the area to Harborside Park and the Hudson River waterfront. The agreements include construction of a 275-space parking garage. City records indicate it would be the first new municipal parking facility built since 2003.

Transportation elements are also included in the approved plans. The redevelopment provides for a fully separated, two-way protected bike lane along 15th Street. The bike lane is intended to connect with Hoboken’s Green Circuit network and support the city’s Vision Zero traffic safety goals.

With the approval of the redevelopment agreements, the city has established a formal framework to proceed with the North End project.
