Gotham FC advanced to the NWSL semifinals on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over the top-seeded Kansas City Current in extra time, securing its third straight semifinal appearance.
Midfielder Jaedyn Shaw opened the scoring in the 68th minute, converting a long ball from Emily Sonnett to record her first career playoff goal. Sonnett earned her first postseason assist on the play. Kansas City equalized in the sixth minute of stoppage time through Ellie Wheeler, forcing an additional 30 minutes.
With a penalty shootout approaching, Gotham found the winner in the 121st minute. Shaw redirected a set piece into the box, and forward Katie Stengel capitalized with a close-range finish to seal the upset.

The win marks Gotham’s first in 12 all-time meetings with Kansas City. The club will face the Orlando Pride in the semifinals on Sunday, Nov. 16, at Inter&Co Stadium, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET.
