Doyle Wins Kearny Mayoral Race

Carol Jean Doyle won the Kearny mayoral race on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Sydney J. Ferreira with 65.01% of the vote, according to unofficial results with 100% of districts reporting. Doyle received 5,674 votes, while Ferreira garnered 3,029. There were 25 write-in votes.
In a public statement following her win, Doyle said, “Thank you Kearny! After a long and difficult campaign your vote and voice was loud and clear 4 more years. The hard work continues and we start with a council meeting tonight. We are grateful and humbled by your support and confidence with our TEAM. Thank you Kearny Strong.”
In the Town Council elections, the Democratic Party candidates secured victories in all four wards. In Ward 1, Marytrine De Castro was re-elected with 70.67% of the vote, totaling 1,137 votes. Her opponent, “Smiley” M. Whala, received 465 votes.
Ward 2’s José M. Rodrigues retained his seat with 66.77% of the vote (1,009 votes), defeating M. Margarida Fernandes, who earned 498 votes.
Fred E. Esteves won the Ward 3 race with 1,480 votes, or 63.45%. Challenger Jorge D. Santos received 1,077 votes.
In Ward 4, Gerald J. Ficeto was re-elected with 62.62% of the vote, defeating Anthony J. Morales, who secured 882 votes.
