Jersey City’s Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh has launched his re-election campaign, pledging to build on his record of advocating for affordable housing, community safety, and improved infrastructure in the Heights. Saleh, who first took office in April 2020 following the passing of former Councilman Michael Yun from COVID-19 complications, has since focused on issues central to residents of Jersey City’s Ward D.

Saleh, a lifelong Heights resident with deep community ties, was appointed to the council in 2020 and has since won a full term, which runs until December 2025. His re-election campaign highlights achievements such as securing millions of dollars for local park upgrades, strengthening tenant rights, and championing initiatives for pay equity and workforce transparency. “Ward D has always been my home,” Saleh said. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made in our neighborhoods, and I’m committed to building on that progress and creating a stronger, more inclusive Jersey City for everyone.”

Saleh’s local roots include leadership roles at McNair Academic High School and Rutgers University, where he was an active student advocate. His work experience as a compliance officer, along with his service in the Jersey City Law Department, has informed his approach to municipal governance. His advocacy extends to families with special needs—a cause close to his heart due to his sister’s experience with Down Syndrome.
