Bob Hurley Returns to Kearny High School for Second Consecutive Basketball Clinic
Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Hurley returned to Kearny High School for a second consecutive year to host a clinic alongside Bayonne High School head coach Ben Gamble and Kearny High School head coach Marc McCaffrey.
Hurley, who coached at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City from 1970 until its closure in 2017, has won more state championships than any other coach in New Jersey history and is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He recently attended the NCAA Final Four, where his son Dan Hurley, head coach at the University of Connecticut, fell to Michigan in the national championship game.
Assemblyman Jerry Walker and members of Sgt. Jack Grimm’s Community Oriented Policing unit were also present at the event. Mark Bruscino, Kearny Schools Director of Operations, was also in attendance.
“Great to see the continued investment in our youth and community here in Kearny,” Walker said. “Coach Hurley’s legacy speaks for itself: decades of excellence, countless state championships, and a well-earned place in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Fresh off attending the Final Four, it’s inspiring to see him continue giving back by mentoring the next generation.”
Kearny Commissioner Carol Jean Gaunt Doyle thanked Hurley and Walker for following through on their commitment. “You kept your promise to come back for the kids and you did, thank you,” Doyle said.
