Bayonne Honors Marie Pope with Street Naming Ceremony

Bayonne, NJ – The City of Bayonne held a street-naming ceremony on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to honor the late Marie Pope, a longtime community leader and educator. West 27th Street between Avenue C and Kennedy Boulevard has officially been designated Marie Pope Way in recognition of her decades of service to the city.

Marie Pope served for 28 years as the Director of Religious Education at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis and Robert Brower, Ms. Pope’s nephew, spoke at the dedication ceremony, highlighting her contributions to the community. Mayor Davis praised Pope’s lifelong commitment to service.

Among those in attendance were several city officials, including City Council President Gary LaPelusa, Sr., City Clerk Madelene Medina, City Council Member At-Large Juan Perez, and Council Member At-Large Loyad Booker.
