Hudson County Community College to Launch Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams This Fall

Hudson County Community College will launch men’s and women’s basketball teams this Fall, marking the start of a new athletics program in the college’s 50-year history.
HCCC will compete as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 15 Division III, which includes community college teams primarily from New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey. The college plans to add men’s and women’s volleyball teams in Fall 2027, followed by additional varsity teams over the next five years.
HCCC, Valley Forge Military College, and Wor-Wic Community College were welcomed as NJCAA members during the April 2026 NJCAA Convention in Kansas City.
“Membership in the NJCAA and the inauguration of our athletics program is a dream come true,” former HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber said. “This is a giant step forward for the College, one the entire community will enjoy and benefit from.”
The athletics program will be headquartered in the college’s Center for Student Success, currently under construction on the Journal Square Campus. The 153,186-square-foot mixed-use tower includes a full-size NCAA gymnasium, fitness center, walking track, and athletic training facility, along with 24 classrooms, a black box theater, and health science labs. Until the building opens this Fall, HCCC will play basketball at Hudson County High Tech High School in Secaucus.
In February, HCCC hired Ethan Nardone as Head Coach for Men’s Basketball and Carlos Cueto as Head Coach for Women’s Basketball. Both coaches are recruiting student-athletes and preparing for the inaugural season.
“The Hudson County community and HCCC are very happy to begin our journey within the NJCAA,” HCCC Athletic Director Jonathan Sisk said. “The community has been waiting with bated breath for an opportunity to support athletics at HCCC.”
