Jersey City Police Officer John Johnny Boy Mack Dies at 43

John Mack, known to many as “Johnny Boy,” a Jersey City Police Officer with 24 years of service, died on May 5, 2026. He was 43.

Born on Oct. 4, 1982, Mack was a lifelong Jersey City resident. He began his career in public service as a corrections officer at the Hudson County Correctional Facility before transferring to state corrections for youth in Annandale, N.J. He later joined the Jersey City Police Department, where he served for 24 years.

The Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association remembered him in a statement. “Johnny Mack was more than an officer — he was family,” the POBA said. “The kind of man everyone has a story about, because he made you feel like you mattered. His watch may have ended, but his impact never will. Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.”

The Secaucus Police Department also extended condolences, saying Mack would be remembered by “family, friends, and coworkers.”

Mack is survived by his mother, Theresa Mack; his father, John Mack; his sister, Christiana Nigowski; and several aunts, cousins, and godchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 8, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Riotto Funeral Home, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ASPCA at aspca.org.
