Rolando Lavarro has announced his candidacy for an at-large seat on the Jersey City Council, joining mayoral candidate James Solomon’s slate. Lavarro, a former council president and at-large member, is seeking to return to city government after previously serving from 2011 to 2021.

Lavarro was the first Asian and Filipino American elected to the Jersey City Council in 2011.

“Jersey City is at a crossroads,” Lavarro said. “Now more than ever, we need leaders who will stand up for working families. James Solomon and I share a commitment to good government, and together, we will create a Jersey City where residents can afford to stay and every neighborhood receives the services it deserves.”

Solomon welcomed Lavarro to his slate, citing his record in office. “Rolando had a strong record in the Council, and his commitment to justice is something we will bring to City Hall every day,” Solomon said. “Together, we will focus on reducing costs, improving quality of life, and holding developers accountable.”
