West New York Middle School Project Moves Forward with $91.75M Contract
The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) has awarded a $91.75 million design-build contract to Terminal Construction Corporation for a new middle school in West New York, the agency announced on January 16.
The upcoming 162,000-square-foot facility will accommodate up to 862 students in grades six through eight. Planned educational features include 30 general classrooms, six science labs, three art rooms, a dance studio, a gymnasium, instrumental and vocal music rooms, a media center, a STEAM lab, an auditorium with a stage, and a cafeteria.
“The start of the design-build contract for this important project continues the Authority’s efforts to address school construction needs throughout the State,” said SDA CEO Manuel Da Silva. “Together with our construction partners, we move one step closer to delivering a school building that will alleviate capacity deficiencies in the district while offering students new opportunities for academic and personal growth.”
The project’s first phase, which includes design services, is already underway and is expected to take six to nine months. The design is being developed by DMR Architects, Inc. in partnership with Terminal Construction Corporation. SDA also recently sought proposals for construction management services, with an award expected in early 2026.
Prior site preparation was conducted under a separate contract with APS Contracting, Inc., which handled demolition and foundation removal at the former Warminster building site. The new middle school is scheduled to open in September 2028. The total estimated cost of the project is $121.8 million.
