Red Bulls Part Ways with Head Coach After Missing Playoffs

The New York Red Bulls announced Monday that their head coach will not return for the 2026 season, following a disappointing 2025 campaign in which the club missed the MLS playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

The departure marks the end of a two-year tenure that began with promise. Hired in 2024, the coach led the Red Bulls to an Eastern Conference title and an MLS Cup Final appearance in his first season. However, the team fell short this season, finishing 12-13-7 and ending the league’s longest active playoff streak.

“We would like to thank Sandro for his dedication in leading our team on the pitch over the last two seasons,” said Red Bulls President Marc de Grandpré. “His professionalism and commitment have left a lasting impact on the organization.”

Sporting Director Jochen Schneider, who is also stepping down at the end of the year, added, “His dedication to the job was outstanding, and I truly wish him nothing but the best in his future coaching endeavors.”

Assistant Coach Volkan Bulut will also depart after the season. The club has begun its search for a new head coach.

As part of broader leadership changes, Julian de Guzman will take over as Head of Sport in 2026.
