North Bergen Officer Accused of Spending On-Duty Hours at Home

A North Bergen police officer is facing a theft charge after investigators found he spent more than 130 hours at home while on duty.

Rasheed Siyam, 27, was arrested on Monday, September 15, 2025, by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit. He was released and is expected to appear in court on Monday, September 29.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, the investigation found that between November 2024 and May 2025, Siyam repeatedly went home during his shifts and stayed well beyond the time allowed for meal breaks.

The charge against Siyam is a third-degree offense. He has not been convicted and is presumed innocent.
