North Bergen Man Charged in Union City Stabbing

A 35-year-old North Bergen man has been arrested in connection with a nonfatal stabbing that occurred in Union City on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Axel Fuentes-Zavala was taken into custody on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his residence. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon (knife), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and harassment. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
The Union City Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing near 30th Street and Jeanette Street. A female victim told officers that she was approached by an unknown male who stabbed her in the back multiple times following a brief interaction. Her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, authorities identified Fuentes-Zavala as a suspect and linked him to a similar incident in North Bergen. He was arrested on an open warrant related to that case.
