The Township of North Bergen celebrated “Youngsup Han’s 65 Years of Artistry” with an award ceremony at Olyaa Gallery on Dec. 30, 2025. Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Township Commissioners presented a formal message of appreciation to Han, recognizing his decades-long impact on the local and international art communities.

The event was attended by regional officials, including Senator Gordon Johnson and Palisades Park Mayor Chong “Paul” Kim, along with numerous local and international artists. The ceremony also marked Han’s return to South Korea following his tenure as resident artist at Olyaa.

Han has been a pioneer in the traditional Korean art forms of Hanji and Takbon since the 1970s. Several of his works are displayed in municipal buildings, including the entrance of Town Hall and the Housing Authority.

“We are honored and delighted that you chose to make North Bergen your home of operations, through the distinguished Olyaa Gallery, while you resided in the United States,” wrote Mayor Sacco. “Our community has been greatly enriched by your presence and that of your artwork.”

Mayor Sacco also commended Han’s international achievements. “I also want to congratulate you on the many international honors you have received for your work. You have amassed a truly impressive array of awards and recognition throughout your career for your outstanding work promoting Korean traditional methods filtered through your unique talents and perspective.”

Due to illness, Han was unable to attend the event in person. Several other artists were also honored with certificates of appreciation.

Olyaa Gallery, located at 704 76th Street in North Bergen, is an internationally recognized exhibition space open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment on Sundays and Mondays.
