North Bergen Hit-and-Run Suspect Apprehended

NORTH BERGEN, Oct. 20, 2023 – A significant arrest has been made by the North Bergen Police Department after an 11-year-old pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run.

On Tuesday, October 17, an 11-year-old was struck by a gray Ford Explorer near 76th Street and Hudson Avenue. The driver, who didn’t stop at the scene, continued driving after the collision. The child suffered injuries from the accident.

Using the vehicle’s license plate, detectives identified and arrested Julio Seoane-Alamo, 57, of North Bergen on Friday, October 20.

Seoane-Alamo faces charges including assault, endangering a child, and leaving the scene of an accident. He also received summonses for reckless driving and failing to report the collision. Seoane-Alamo awaits his first court appearance.

Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual and Mayor Nick Sacco both commended the police department’s swift action. Mayor Sacco stressed the township’s dedication to safety, stating the importance of collaborating with schools and community organizations for a safer environment.

“I want to extend my gratitude to the members of the North Bergen Police Department for their tremendous work in apprehending the suspect involved in the hit and run of an eleven year old student,” Mayor Nicholas Sacco said in a statement. “Their actions reflect our Township’s commitment to justice and safety, because our children’s well-being is our top priority. Through collaboration with schools and community organizations, we are determined to create a safer environment for all of our residents.”
