No Kings Protest Mo Kinberg

On June 14, a large crowd gathered near the Grove Street PATH station as part of a coordinated day of protest known as “No Kings Day.” The demonstration responded to a military parade planned by President Trump in Washington, D.C., coinciding with his birthday. Activists across multiple cities aimed to redirect attention toward broader concerns about the president’s policies and legacy.

In Jersey City, participants focused on immigration justice, voicing opposition to the treatment of undocumented immigrants and support for pro immigrant policies. The local event was organized by the Hudson County chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and The Knitty Gritty JC, a women-led group focused on community organizing and protecting democracy.

“This is an immigrant community where people feel comfortable showcasing where they came from before America,” said Hector Oseguera, a former congressional candidate and member of the Hudson County Democratic Socialists of America. “We are concerned about democracy in America,” he added. “The person who is currently in the White House does not respect the American tradition of not having someone rule over.”

Moriah Kinberg, a member of The Knitty Gritty JC, praised the turnout and spirit of the event. “People in our community are committed to democracy to withstand the authoritarianism that’s coming at us,” she said. She also noted the cooperation of local law enforcement: “One officer from the Jersey City Police Department called us in advance to tell us that they would be here to protect our First Amendment rights.”

Hundreds gathered in downtown Jersey City in what the article describes as peaceful protest of national leadership and support for democratic values and immigrant communities.

In response to the wave of protests, President Trump said, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get things approved.”
