McGreevey, Solomon Highlight Key Contrasts in Post-Debate Statements

Following the PIX11 mayoral debate, Jim McGreevey and James Solomon offered sharply different assessments of their performance and policy priorities.

McGreevey characterized the debate as a demonstration of tested leadership and fiscal discipline. He reiterated his commitment to keeping municipal property taxes flat and criticized Solomon’s affordable housing plan as unrealistic and costly. “In a McGreevey administration, there will be no increase in the municipal property taxes,” he stated, citing a projected $2.95 billion price tag for Solomon’s rent subsidy proposal. McGreevey framed his approach as grounded in executive experience and practical governance. “Leadership is not theoretical. It must be real, experienced, and grounded in the basics,” he said.

Solomon’s campaign described his debate performance as steady and solutions-focused. “There was only one mayor on the debate stage tonight, and that was James Solomon,” said campaign manager Stuart Thomas. He emphasized Solomon’s pledge to deliver affordable housing through rent caps, enforcement of rent control, and independence from developer influence. The campaign also cited Solomon’s first-place finish in the general election and endorsements from over a dozen former candidates as evidence of growing support. “James Solomon is looking to the future, while Jim McGreevey is stuck in the past,” Thomas said.
