Love in the Hudson: Episode 2 – Pottery and Pasta

Hello everyone, I’m Martha Elizabeth, and I’m excited to share with you the second episode of “Love in the Hudson,” a series curated by my boyfriend, Fernando Valencia, and me. We’re on a mission to create unique and memorable date night experiences in the Hudson County area. This episode takes you on a journey through a pottery class and a local eatery, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture and lifestyle of Hudson County.

Blue Skies Pottery: A Communal Space for Creativity

Our adventure begins with our visit to Blue Skies Pottery, a communal space dedicated to the craft of pottery. This studio is a haven for creativity and mental well-being, fostering a sense of community among its patrons. Fernando and I embarked on our first pottery class ever, removing our jewelry and donning aprons before diving into the craft.

After watching numerous pottery videos, it was exhilarating to finally get to experience the craft firsthand. With the help of our instructor, we quickly got the hang of things and zoned into our own world, fully immersed in the clay. We were thrilled to show you our final pieces before they went into the kiln for baking. They promised to be ready for pickup in four weeks.

Local Eatery and Bar: A Taste of Jersey City

After our pottery class, Fernando and I headed downtown to Lokal Eatery and Bar in Jersey City. The restaurant is located along Jersey City’s waterfront, offering guests expansive views of the Manhattan skyline. The summertime feeling is unmatched, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

We started off with creative cocktails. The “Local Pop” is a Prosecco with a ball of watermelon, and the “Allen Cats” is a choice of liquor topped with a butterfly pea flower. Both drinks were aesthetically pleasing and delicious. For appetizers, we tried the beef tartar, rock shrimp, and tuna tartar. The beef tartar, in particular, impressed us with its unique flavor.

For entrees, we opted for the recommended grilled octopus, braised short ribs, and lamb shank. The short ribs were tasty and soft, while the lamb shank fell right off the bone, tender and flavorful. We ended our meal with a classic chocolate cake and fruity ice cream.
