Pulaski Skyway Closes Both Ways This Weekend

The Pulaski Skyway will be fully closed in both directions this weekend, from 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said.
Crews will put in temporary supports so they can replace one of the bridge’s concrete piers in Kearny, part of the ongoing rebuild of the 93-year-old Skyway between Newark and Jersey City. The road could reopen early if the work wraps up sooner, the state said.
The state is urging drivers to use the New Jersey Turnpike’s Hudson County Extension, also known as I-78, to reach the Holland Tunnel, Jersey City, Hoboken and points west. Other traffic will be sent to Route 1&9 Truck in both directions.
Drivers leaving the Holland Tunnel should keep far right for the Turnpike extension. For local Jersey City trips, they can take the Route 139 upper roadway toward Kennedy Boulevard.
A longer closure starts the same night. The Kearny ramp to and from the Skyway, which serves the South Kearny peninsula, will be shut for several months while crews replace a support on another pier. Drivers will be detoured through Central Avenue and Route 1&9 Truck.
